It will be almost impossible to discover a man, who on his deathbed, laments the fact that he had not spent more time at the office. To many of the softer minded people of the world, it is a wonder that any man would ever desire to be a sailor. They think of the forsaking of home and friends, the many hardships, the terrible risks, the being cut off from the many luxuries and comforts the well-to-do enjoy on shore, and are astonished at the wilfulness which makes men endure the one and cast aside the other for the sake of a life at sea.
